A lot has been said about the cholera situation back home. There is no doubting the root causes of the problem and what has sparked the latest outbreak. However does going over the causes do anything to help the people in Zimbabwe. There is a lot that ourselves as Zimbabweans can do to help those back home. Given the number of Zimabweans in the Diaspora a concerted effort to help will make a significant impact to those affected. I can already hear some of you giving excuses, but we are not talking about huge sums of money here. If each one who is able can give a little something it will make a big difference. If we do not help people at home who do we expect to do so.

For those of us who are abroad, we must consider ourselves very fortunate and be willing to help. It’s high time we shed the selfish tag associated with most of us and help our fellow country people. There are people who are in dire need of help, where a small amount of help can make the difference between life and death. Yes, that is exactly what it is for most people affected. Why do we find it easier to fill up concerts venues when musicians come over ,where we pay well in excess of £20 per show not to mention the cost of beverages, but at the thought of sparing a pound or a fiver for those in need back home? Yes in the long term the causes have to be fixed, but as someone once said when you see a neighbours house on fire, you help first and then later ask why he was playing with fireworks inside the house! After all the very people affected have nothing to do with the root causes, by and large.
